About

I have been involved with WordPress since 2007. First as a blogger, then as a developer putting up WordPress websites. In 2015 I improved my skills by studying for a Diploma in digital marketing and search engine optimisation (SEO). I still keep my search engine optimisation training up to date with the latest developments.

I decided to sell my client list in 2017 and take a break from working for others. I found a job but also continued to build and sell products and websites.

I considered a return to freelance working and WordPress in early 2023 after undertaking a Belbin Individual Team Role Report. I was interested in where my strengths lie in regards to starting and completing projects. The findings were no surprise and highlighted why being a freelancer appealed to me more than running a business.

What I am great at is getting started and finishing things. My top 3 Belbin roles are:

Specialist (62nd percentile) – Single-minded, self-starting, dedicated. Provides knowledge and skills in rare supply.

Implementer (59th percentile) – Practical, reliable, efficient. Turns ideas into actions and organises work that needs to be done.

Completer Finisher (58 percentile) – Painstaking, conscientious, anxious. Searches out errors. Polishes and perfects.

I started my software developer journey in 2023 and graduated with a Merit grade in March 2024. My full title is Full-Stack Software Developer (eCommerce). eCommerce is my specialisation but Artificial Intelligence is a passion.

Diploma in Digital Marketing

Despite being a developer in her late-50s, I wouldn’t mind if an opportunity to work in a small tech firm came along. In the meantime I continue my work on improving my Django skills and building projects I can sell.

While doing so I am also improving my Python, Flask, and database/API skills using AI Agents and Chatbots. ML fine tuning and prompt engineering. I also aim to learn new things like Wagtail, Docker, and AWS.

In August 2010 I gave a talk to authors/writers on how to use the internet to promote their books online. Focusing on blogging, video and social media marketing.

This is a short extract of what was a 90 minute workshop. The workshop was part of a festival held for writers.

The talk took place at the University of West Indies Dominica

A Social Network

2009

Back in 2009 I ran a social network. It was for the diaspora of an island called Dominica. This is where my parents were from. I wanted to meet other people. The network had over 8,000 members when I sold it.
