Learning Wagtail CMS

I am doing my best not to let this new enthusiasm for AI overtake my core focus of improving my back-end developer skills. There is a list of things I still need to learn/improve upon since completing my course.

I really want to focus on learning by building so that I am creating something rather than continually reading/watching videos as a way to learn.

Today, a post on LinkedIn reminded me that taking a look at Wagtail CMS was on my tech stack list. I have looked into Divio in the past and struggled with it a little so I am hoping Wagtail will be easier.

I still want to build my main website using either Django or Flask but may keep this WordPress blog. Don’t want to walk away from WordPress completely.

What I do need though – if I am to continue to develop websites – is a CMS framework that clients can manage once the site is complete. Whatever I choose my own site will be built with it.

So what is Wagtail?

I took this from the main site:

Wagtail is the leading open-source Python CMS

It’s fast, elegant, and designed to give everyone on your team the tools they need to manage content at enterprise scale.”

wagtail.org

This video is a quick overview of Wagtail CMS 4 – although version 6 has recently been released.

They have also recently run a webinar on Discovering Wagtail AI

In the next post I think I will write out my tech stack so I am clear about what path I am following and not moving around too much. It is real easy to focus on too many things without getting anything done!
